Cameron's First Eye Exam

I took Cameron for his very first eye exam today. Overall it went fairly well.

Given the condition of my eyes and Amy's, I was relieved and somewhat surprised to find out that he didn't need glasses (yet). The doctor also did a few tests which confirmed the red-green color blindness that we've suspected for some time now.

I was also pleased with Cameron's behavior. I think he was distracted by all the different pieces of equipment.

Oh, and did I mention that it was almost impossible to get him to stand still long enough for the one machine to take his eye measurements? I'm starting to believe that children are born with a mild case of Parkinson's, which they eventually grow out of.

So no glasses this time, but i'm sure it won't be long...

Checkin' out Jordan Lake

Having nothing to do on a Sunday afternoon, and itching to go for a drive, we hopped in the Pilot and headed over to Jordan Lake.

It's only 10 or 15 minutes from the house, but we'd never been over there before. In fact, I didn't even know about it until a friend of mine (who lives in Maine) asked me about it.

The recreation area was pretty nice. There was a boat slip, a playground, lots of picnic tables and grassy areas, and a beach that's probably almost 100 yards long.

Cameron was out playing with a friend, so it was just Amy, Dillan, and I. We walked around checking everything out, and we swung on the swings, which Dillan really liked. I can't wait to go back with both of the boys once the weather warms up.

Amy's New Ride

Its a 2010 Honda Pilot EX-L.

We'd been driving Amy's Mazda for over three years, and had put over 60k mile on it, and its been a little cramped ever since Dillan joined the family, so we decided to upgrade.

We were initially looking for a used '09 model, but after a little shopping around I managed to find a brand new model for only a tiny bit more.  They also gave us a pretty decent trade-in for the Mazda, so we didn't have to bother with selling it ourselves.

The Honda has more space, and more features, so as long as we don't go poppin' out any more kids, this should last us for quite a while.

Cameron's first REAL hair cut

Camerons_first_REAL_hair_cut.zip (409 KB)

Cameron's hair was getting out of control. In fact, we had began referring to it as the "hair helmet". Normally I'd cut it myself, using clippers, but I didn't want it to be that short while it's still cold out. That meant it was time for a REAL hair cut.

He was a little apprehensive at first, but once he was in the chair with the smock-thing over him, he was fine.

I think this may mark the end of my hair-hacking days.

Dillan + Blocks + Shelf

(download)

I shot a quick video of Dillan playing with his blocks on the shelf in my office.  He's changed so much in the past few weeks, between finally starting to walk a lot, and the way he plays with his toys.  Now he does lots of stacking, building, and putting things inside one another, whereas before he pretty much just banged things around and knocked stuff over.

It's not too often that we get out, so I felt as though I should document it. We're at the Red Bowl Asian Bistro, about to have some sushi.

Replacing the old mini-blinds

Replacing_the_old_mini-blinds.zip (617 KB)

I swapped out the cruddy, old vinyl mini-blinds in the kitchen/dining area with new 2" faux wood blinds. The plan is to replace them all eventually, but they're not cheap so we're just doing a few at a time.
