Halloween 2011

For those not in the know, Cameron is a creeper. A monster from one of his favorite computer games, Minecraft.

Oh, and the house with all the decorations in not mine. I just wanted to give an idea of how they roll in my neighborhood. They don't play around.

One after another, people kept stopping by and telling us that our pumpkins were the best they'd seen in the neighborhood.  Amy carved the haunted house pumpkin and I carved the other with the skull on the front and "Day of the Dead" on the back, and Cameron did the Batman pumpkin.  The boys were dressed as Batman and a race car driver.  Dillan, the race car driver, was not a happy camper.  I'm not sure why, but he was just in a pissy mood all evening.  There were a ton of kids in the neighborhood this year.  We bought two huge bags of candy and gave out every last piece.  I think Halloween is one of my favorite things about this neighborhood.

Cameron's Letter to Santa

Camerons_santa_letter_2009

Unfortunately, space was limited so he just ran all the words together.

Here it is with spaces: "Set Cos, I wot a crismismic trian ued a hurse tht mosu."

Translation: "Santa Claus, I want a Christmas train and a horse that moves."

The best part was that he wrote this all on his own (obviously) and now he wants to put it in the mail to send it to Santa.

That tree is up to something...

Ever since we put the tree up my dog Chubbs has been watching it very carefully. He's very distrustful of it and clearly thinks it's up to something.

Let's just hope there isn't a squirrel living in the tree...

Getting into the spirit...

It's never too early to get into the mother fuckin spirit!

We went all out this year and bought a real live 7 foot tall tree. Cameron was super-excited to go pick up the tree. He also seemed excited to decorate the tree, but in reality I think he just wanted to play with the train ornaments.

I started putting up lights outside yesterday but got sidetracked and couldn't finish. Then today my next-door neighbor suddenly had his lights up. Well I couldn't be out done, so I resumed setting up my lights this evening after we finished with the tree. I still have a little more to do tomorrow, but it's looking pretty good so far.

Thanksgiving dinner, a day late...

We ended up having our Thanksgiving dinner on Friday instead of Thursday. Since my parents live all the way out in Las Vegas, and Chris and Kim were spending the holiday with her family, we figured we would just wait and have our big dinner when Ann and Terry came down with Cameron.

Amy and I kind of threw the meal together at the last minute, but fortunately it turned out great, especially the desserts. At one point, I was so full that I thought I was going throw up. It was awesome.

Halloween Recap

We had a really great Halloween this year.

It's amazing how much better it is when you live in a house, versus an apartment.  Tons of people were out in the neighborhood.  Everywhere you looked there were parents out walking around, trick-or-treating and having a lot of fun.  Our street in particular seemed to be a pretty happening place.  There was a haunted house, a pot-luck, and a barbeque.

Chris and Kim came over to hang out with us, and so did our friends Paul and Larisa with their baby girl.  We spent the entire evening hanging out on the porch, having a few drinks and chatting it up.  I don't think we made it inside until nearly 2am.

I think Cameron had a lot of fun.  He and his Uncle Chris were both dressed as Star Wars characters.  I think he really like seeing all his friends from school out in the streets.  The laughed and played and compared costumes.

We voted on our favorite costume that evening, and it was unanimous.  My neighbor Sheldon, who's from India, was dressed as a Native American with a big feather headdress.  When I saw him, I just laughed.  He said, "I'm an Indian, LITERALLY!!!"

To top it all off, the weather couldn't have been any better.  It was in the low 70's, and there were no bugs out that night, so it was a perfect evening to hang out outside.

I'm definitely looking forward to next year.
