Replacing the old mini-blinds
I swapped out the cruddy, old vinyl mini-blinds in the kitchen/dining area with new 2" faux wood blinds. The plan is to replace them all eventually, but they're not cheap so we're just doing a few at a time.

The touchless electric soap dispenser that my parents got us for Christmas last year finally died, so I went to Lowe's (again) and picked up this sink-mounted dispencer. The sink wasn't predrilled so I got a 1" drill bit also. As it turns out, I should've gotten a 1 1/8" bit instead, but I just ended up using the Dremel to open it up a little bit. Anyway, it was easy to install and it looks a lot better than a big bottle of dish soap sitting on the counter.
Exciting stuff, I know...
Our garage had become a huge mess, so I went to Lowe's today and picked up a chrome floor-standing shelf to match the one we already had and a ceiling-mounted hanging shelf.
The hanging shelf went up much easier than I thought it would and it was nice to get all that stuff totally up and out of the way, so I think I may need to pick up another one. Enjoy the exciting photos...
I spent the first four hours pulling weeds in the front yard, roots and all. Then I filled in all the bare spots with peat moss, fertilizer, and grass seed. I also watered the backyard and noticed that the seed I put down last weekend is finally starting to sprout. I'm really looking forward to seeing what my lawn looks like next spring.
Since we moved into this house, we've had more clogged toilets than anywhere else we've ever lived combined. I knew something had to be wrong so I called my Dad. He was a plumber for several years when I was younger, so I thought he might be able to shed some light on the problem.
After a quick call to friend of his that's still in "the biz", he told us that we basically just had crappy toilets (no pun intended) that were know for getting clogged.
We have 2.5 baths, all with the same kind of toilet. Since my Dad was in town, I asked him to show me how to replace one so that I could eventually replace the other two also. It was really easy to do, and it only took us about 30 minutes.
We picked a Kohler toilet from Lowe's for just under $300, and so far it's worked great. No clogs.
Thanks Dad!
