Playing in the sprinkler
We got together with Kim and Chris, and went out to nearby Jordan lake for the afternoon. It wasn't too crowded and the water was great. It's not the same as going to the beach, but it's so close and convenient, which makes it a really nice alternative.
We've had a lot of fun at the neighborhood pool this summer. Last summer, our first in the neighborhood, Dilly was too young for us to really take advantage of the pool. Now that he's a little older and a little more independent, it's easier for all to enjoy ourselves.
Cameron's learning his way around the pool and getting more comfortable with the water. He was deathly afraid of the water slide until I made him go down it. Now he can't get enough.
Dillan loves the water and has no fear of it. He'll walk right into deep water and he pushes away from us when we carry him around in the pool. It wouldn't surprise me if he were swimming on his own by next summer.
Joining the pool this summer was definitely money well spent.
The weather was nice today, so we went to the farm just down the road to pick strawberries. Actually, Amy did all of the picking while I chased Dillan around, and Cameron wandered through the strawberry field and checked out the old farm equipment.
We ended up with about 5 pounds of fresh, delicious strawberries which we used to make strawberry shortcake when the neighbors came over for dinner later in the evening.
I woke up this morning to the non-stop clanging sound of a cowbell coming from the direction of my backyard. I had initially attributed it to the neighbors kids, but once I got up and looked out the window, I saw otherwise.
There was a marathon going on that passed along the street behind my house. The sound that I was hearing - yeah, that was some woman that evidently thought she was in Canada at the Winter Olympics. I fully expected her to be wearing the red mittens with a white maple leaf.
Having nothing to do on a Sunday afternoon, and itching to go for a drive, we hopped in the Pilot and headed over to Jordan Lake.
It's only 10 or 15 minutes from the house, but we'd never been over there before. In fact, I didn't even know about it until a friend of mine (who lives in Maine) asked me about it. The recreation area was pretty nice. There was a boat slip, a playground, lots of picnic tables and grassy areas, and a beach that's probably almost 100 yards long. Cameron was out playing with a friend, so it was just Amy, Dillan, and I. We walked around checking everything out, and we swung on the swings, which Dillan really liked. I can't wait to go back with both of the boys once the weather warms up.
Cameron and I were spending the day together and the weather was beautiful out, so I took him to check out the new section of the American Tobacco Trail. It's an old railroad, running from Durham all the way down to southern Cary, that was converted to a walking/biking trail. Since it was previously a railroad, it's very straight and level, which makes it easy on Cameron since he tires easily if he has to walk a lot of hills. The new section is even paved, so he was able to ride his scooter.
Cameron and I decided to enjoy the beautiful weather by exploring the neighborhood.
